Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most commonly-asked questions from prospective Montessori families.
How often are parent-teacher conferences? What should we expect?
In the fall we open up our classroom for parents to come and observe. Parents receive a Glow and Grow report before their visit. Spring conferences are in person with teachers and parents. The child’s social, emotional and academic progress is discussed in detail. Parents may also schedule a meeting with the teacher throughout the year as needed, or a visit to the classroom for observation.
What topics will the children learn throughout the year?
We have a 3 year curriculum that encourages students to build on prior knowledge while being introduced to new concepts. Subjects rotate every 3 to 5 weeks at our private school. Each of the seven continents is studied every year, while science and practical life units change with seasons and holidays.
What is your student/teacher ratio? What ages does your school serve?
We offer a 1:6 ratio. Our program serves ages 3-6 and is referred to as the Primary Program in Montessori terms. Each stage of development is important as children grow into lifelong learners and responsible citizens of the world. Our Montessori Preschool and Montessori Kindergarten programs currently have students from around the San Ramon Valley.
Do you offer music at school? What about summer programs?
We integrate music and stories into our circle times. Yes, we have a 3-4 week summer session with a geography unit of study and a cultural or science element. The children bring lunch and we integrate yoga.
